Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce or revise the shape of the labia minor and/or labia majora. There are many reasons why women choose to have a revision of the labia. These can include pain, chaffing during strenuous exercise, discomfort with intercourse, changes with pregnancy and childbirth, asymmetry, or simply wanting to improve confidence.

The two most common methods to reduce the size of the labia are either a linear incision or V-wedge technique. Labiaplasty is an outpatient surgery typically done with local anesthetic, however a general anesthetic can also be used. The labia are trimmed and reshaped using very small, dissolvable sutures. Recovery typically involves one week off work and strenuous activity and four to six weeks of abstaining from tampon use or intercourse. Swelling can take up to six weeks or more to completely resolve.
